Freshers Week is nearly here! Find freshers parties in your city.

Freshers Week Party

The Freshers Guide has compiled a handy list to make sure you don’t miss out on the best bits of your freshers week!

You’re only a Fresher once, so make sure it goes off with a bang!

1. Go to a freshers fair

Freshers fairs are a great way to get to know the campus of your university and speak to society members of any societies you may be interested in. They’re also a great opportunity to rack up as many freebies as you can! With everything from stationary to free food to beer glasses, why not challenge your flatmates to see who comes back with the greatest selection of goodies!

2. Sign up to at least one university society or club

Whether you’re the sporty type or into your Shakespeare, love some K-pop or fancy giving pole dancing a try, now is the time to sign up. If you don’t sign up, be sure to get as much information from the society and club members at each stall so you can make an informed decision later. And remember, the more random the better. You have no idea what you may fall in love with during your time at university!

3. Make an international friend

Many of us haven’t encountered students from overseas in the U.K, but now you’re at university you’ll be surrounded by incredible individuals from all over the globe! Whether they’re on your course, living in your flat or you meet them on a night out - get chatting to them! You’ll learn so much about their culture and you’ll become great friends in no time.

4. Get lost in your new home

This will happen naturally during your first few weeks, but we also actively encourage it! Go out for a wonder with your new friends, you’ll be sure to discover some of your new favourite future spots! Don’t be afraid to get lost, it’s all part of the adventure.

5. Go to those big freshers events

It wouldn’t be freshers week without a big party every night and you’re completely spoilt for choice! No matter what your tastes, there’s something for you. This is a great way to bond with your flatmates and make new friends along the way! We know it can be daunting, so we at The Freshers Guide have compiled a list of our *must-go-to events*. Be sure to buy these tickets in advance or you might miss out, they do sell out!

6. Find your favourite coffee shop

If you don’t already know it, you’ll be fuelling yourself up on caffeine whilst at university! Whether that be a flat white or a spicy chai latte, you need to know about the best spots to keep those energy levels up, meet friends/tutors and also work in if you fancy!

7. Take pictures of EVERYTHING

Yup. We want you to be like a dad on holiday. Don’t worry about the quality either. They will make hilarious memories to look back on one day. You’ll thank us later.

8. Get a WhatsApp chat set up for your flat

Absolute essential, get this done right away! Have your flatmates gone to the supermarket and you need some soy milk for your cornflakes? WhatsApp. Lost in a club on a night out and can’t find the rest of your gang? WhatsApp.  Extra points for an inventive name.

9. Make a flat Spotify playlist

This one's easy. It also helps to (somewhat) prevent the arguments at pre-drinks before going out. Maybe even get your neighbours in on it too!

10. Meet someone on a different course

Break out of your immediate flat and circle of friends. Chat to other students in the library, on campus or on a night out and ask what they’re studying. You never know, you may learn something. And better still, you may make a friend along the way.

11. Try some new food

Your flatmates will all no doubt come from different backgrounds and all have different styles of cooking. They may also come from different cultures and introduce you to a whole wealth of new dishes. Plan a flat cooking night or share your dishes with your flatmates. You might find your new go-to grub!
