New

Freshers Week is nearly here! Find freshers parties in your city.

A polaroid photo

As we all know, parties, in general, have a lot of individual elements that all need attention.

Fresher’s parties are as old as time and happen every September regardless. But the issue is making yours stand out, making yours legendary - a party that they'll be talking about all year long. To get that buzz and vibe, you need something new and different.

Photo booths are all the rage at the moment and something you should seriously consider for your party. While there’s nothing wrong with the photos your mates are taking (apart from when they’ve got their finger over the camera or you’ve got drunk eyes), why not spice things up and opt for a photo booth at your next party?

There are so many wild and wacky things you can do to take your photo booth pics up a level, and we’re going to be giving you our top 6 of them! Trust us; these ideas are sure to make your next fresher's party the event of the season.

Firstly, what is a photo booth?

You probably already know what a photo booth is, but for those who have been under a rock for the past couple of years - photo booths are portable kiosks/booths that automatically take a snap of you and your besties. Usually, they come with a fun backdrop and with some props.

Now, you’re probably thinking “yeah, sounds great but I’m on a student budget” - well, fear not. You can actually DIY these photo booths pretty easily.

All you need is a designated section with a backdrop and a willing photographer!

Photo booths have become super popular over these last few years, and you've probably used one yourself, so you already know how fun it can be! It helps spice things up, kill that awkward vibe at events and actually works as a great ice-breaker instead of having people stressing to think up 2 truths and 1 lie (sooo 2009).

So without further ado, let’s get into 6 ways you snap 10/10 photo booth pics at your next fresher’s party!

DIY Photo Booth Ideas For Fresher’s Parties

Instagram Frames

You’ve seen them, you love them, it’s the Instagram frame!

Complete with a personalised caption, you can buy these babies online - and they’re a must-have prop for your photo booth. Simply have your party-goers hold up the Instagram frame whilst the photos are snapped and there you have it - a creative twist on a typical party pic.

Vintage Frames

If you’re really trying to party like it's 1999, you can ditch the digital age and opt for a vintage frame instead.

There are tons of options out there for getting a vintage frame or some vintage props, Amazon being your best bet - isn’t it always? Or you could go on a treasure hunt around your halls or at home to source the perfect frame for your photo booth pics. But if you're taking a picture frame from home, be sure to ask your folks first… Or maybe just take it and make sure it doesn't get damaged - it’s always better to ask for forgiveness than seek permission (but you didn’t hear that from us!)

Neon Lights & Signs

Neon lights or coloured fairy lights are super easy to come by and will create a cute and unique addition to your photobooth pics. They can brighten up the pictures taken and look fantastic as a backdrop with basically no effort.

Neon signs tend to be a bit on the pricey side, but if your loans just dropped - why not splash out? Or, if you’re being sensible, neon fairy lights are student budget-friendly and can create the same result.

Wooden Pallets

Old wooden pallets aren't what usually comes to mind when you're planning a party but trust us when we say they are perfect for creating your very own personalised photo booth.

Adding a wooden texture in the background can really elevate your booth and give it an edgy vibe. Plus, they are relatively easy to get your hands on. If not online, then try your local corner shop and check to see if they have any you can borrow for the night.

Whiteboard/Chalkboards

Another super fun idea? A giant chalkboard. Or whiteboard!

Give your party-goers the chance to create their own background and get creative. You could choose a theme for the party and let the guests draw, write, and leave their imprint. Then, once they've taken their photo, it can be rubbed off so the next lot can draw whatever they want.

And when the party's over, you’ve got a chalkboard/whiteboard for your flat! Use it to help organise the chores or leave each other little notes (niceties only, kids!) You probably have a whiteboard, in your flat or common room that you could also use. BAM! We’ve just saved you some money. You’re welcome.

Balloons

Thought we forgot about this party classic? Never!

Cheap & cheerful, a wall of balloons makes a fantastic backdrop for party photos. You can get creative with what colours to use, how to arrange them and what size of balloons to get - trust us, it’s totally worth it.

And there we have it, 6 ideas on how to easily take your photo booth to the next level.
